Bah Humbug

Bah humbug. Not on our part, but on the jerky thieves who stole our Christmas decorations! With the baby and everything that goes with him (lack of sleep, energy, etc.) we decided not to put lights up on the house this year. We did, however, have a very cute lighted snowman and a brand new lighted puppy-holding-a-present-in-his-mouth for our front yard. Without lights on the house, I still felt that we were at least contributing something festive to our street with our yard decor!

Sunday morning Blair discovered that our snowman and puppy were missing. He thought it might have been a friend playing a joke (yes, we have those type of friends), but when he checked our surveillance cameras he saw two grown men stealing our stuff around 2:00am. I guess they hit several houses in the area. We did recover our snowman (the stupid, pathetic criminals found a different snowman they liked better and threw ours out into a neighbor's yard and took their snowman instead), albeit it's in pretty rough shape now. We also found one of the puppy's legs out in the street :( If these morons are stealing things to re-sell, they're not taking very good care of their stolen "merchandise".

It's pretty sad when you can't even leave Christmas decorations out for fear of them being stolen. I guess it could be worse, at least they didn't take Blair's LSU gnomes...

All I can say is that karma is a "B", especially CHRISTMAS KARMA. I hope they get coal and/or a severe beat down from Santa.

Landry Has Landed!

Our little guy has arrived! Landry Dale Verrette was born via c-section at 7:48am on November 2, 2009, weighing in at 7lbs 2oz and 19 inches long. With as much as newborns sleep, I can't believe I'm just now getting a chance to update the blog - he's two weeks and two days old already! I've attached pictures below, including nursery pics if you keep scrolling down.

RECAP of Landry's first two weeks: Blair and I arrived at the hospital at 5:30am. I was prepped with my IV, etc. within 30 mins and was able to hang out with Blair and my family until they wheeled me into the operating room at 7:30 (Oma, Opa, and Uncle Patrick came in from Amarillo on Sunday for the birth and stayed until Tuesday - Oma and Opa are German for grandpa and grandma and it's what my parents are called). I was awake and alert by 9:00, but didn't get to meet Landry until about 10:15 when I was taken to my room and they brought him in to me. Daddy had already accompanied him to the nursery where he was warmed, bathed, given his vitamin K shot and swaddled. Blair stayed each night with us and barely ever left my side. We were released from the hospital that Thursday and part of me couldn't believe we were actually getting to take home this perfect little boy - he was ours to keep!!!

Oma, Opa, Aunt Christy and Jonathan came back that Friday to spend the weekend with us... Ireland had a sleepover that Friday night, but came to stay the weekend with us that Saturday morning. She loves her little brother so much and has been a huge help! Blair's mom & sister are coming in from Louisiana the Wednesday before Thanksgiving - we can't wait for them to meet the baby!!!

The week after we got home from the hospital we had dinner brought to us EVERY night by several of our friends - what a wonderful blessing!

Landry has already had his one week & two week check-ups and everything is just perfect. He weighed 7lbs 6oz at his two week check-up, so he's gained back his birth weight plus some! Keep it up Mr. Landry!

There are plenty more pictures, but I just don't have the time right now to get them posted - I will though! Below are pics of the nursery. The shelves in his room are still a work in progress...

The Eve of Landry's Arrival

We've attended classes, read books, the house is clean and the nursery is ready... and now we only have 12 hours before Landry arrives. We can't believe how fast the past 9 months have gone and we can't wait to meet our little guy!

We will check back in with pictures of Landry (and his nursery as I've promised) once we're settled in. Thank you for all of the well wishes, support and prayers!

Showers Galore!

Landry, and our entire family, has been "showered" with gifts, love and well wishes over the past 8.5 months. Four different showers have been hosted on our behalf and all I can say is that we have the best family, friends, and co-workers ever! Landry is already being spoiled rotten. Needless to say, we are definitely set for his big arrival in less than 2 weeks!

August 11th - Mosaic Shower
Blair's co-workers threw him a surprise shower while they were all in Bentonville, AR for meetings. Blair was completely caught off guard, which is difficult to accomplish, and proceeded to have a great time at the full-blown baby shower they had set up - complete with an LSU diaper cake, gifts, snacks, and games! Thank you Game-On team!

September 19th - Amarillo Shower
Our shower in Amarillo was so much fun! It was a really short weekend for us, Blair, Ireland & I drove up on Friday and had to leave on Sunday, but it was so good to see everyone! Sarah even flew in from Phoenix to help host! Thanks again to Mom, Christy, Tasha, Katie, Sarah and Linda for hosting this shower for us! And thank you to all of our family & friends who were able to attend!

Christy and her friend Amberlee did an incredible job on the diaper cake!!

October 9th - FM Global Shower
My co-workers also threw a shower for little Landry and again we were showered with such thoughtfulness and generosity! Thank you to everyone!

Blair & I with the oh-so-cute and oh-so-yummy cake!

Blair & I at the front of the room, in front of everyone, waiting to open gifts... a little awkward ;)

Rusty's gift with personalized wrapping! Too funny!

October 10th - Lantana Shower
Our good friends, Carol Francis, Patty Young, and Kaysha Sparling, threw us a local shower so that our friends in the area could get together for a fun, girly afternoon! Everyone drank mimosas - they even had non-alcholic wine for me - which I made believe was the real thing :) - talked, ate, and cooed over the two adorable babies that were there - Miss Payton & Miss Cardyn.

Yet another Beautiful and Delicious cake!!!

Keith & Jackson Sparling had an LSU growth stick made for Landry - this will be the perfect way to track our little tiger's growth over the years to come - too cute!

Miss Payton Cargill was the perfect little helper! It feels just like yesterday that I was at Shanna's shower celebrating Payton's impending arrival, and that's been almost a year ago - where does the time go?

Bad Blogger

My intent when starting this blog was to routinely update it with cute pictures and stories about what our family has been up to. It has been 40 days & nights since my last blog... and since a lot has been happening in the Verrette household since the last post, I must just be bad, lazy blogger. My blogging card should be taken away...

Since the last post, Ireland has started 2nd grade (we're already over a month into the school year and she's doing great!), Blair's mother and sister came to visit over Labor Day weekend, we traveled to Amarillo for our first baby shower (I'll post pictures within the next few days, promise!), the official start of Autumn (my favorite season) arrived and with it at least a few cooler days, and the 2009 college football season has started!!! LSU, by the skin of their teeth, are 4-0. They do play at Georgia this Saturday and then the Florida Gators come to Death Valley on the 10th, so we're just keeping our fingers crossed for the next two weeks.

Landry will be here in less than 5 weeks, so we've also been very busy getting the nursery ready for his arrival (and by "we", I mean Blair). He's done an incredible job with all of the painting and he even installed crown molding and chair rails - the works! It looks great and once things are a little more put together, I'll post some pictures.

I'm still feeling great! At all of my doctor's appointments everything has been just perfect with both Landry and myself, including my weight and blood pressure. He is moving ALL of the time and I still get the biggest kick out of it (pun intended). I love being pregnant and try not to take any of it for granted!

Until next time... and if it does turn out to be another month from now, I'll take away my own card ;)

Date Night... at a Gas Station

Blair and I spent this past Saturday night with our good friends, Norm and Carol. Their good friend, Aaron, was visiting from L.A. so they invited us out to a gourmet dinner at "one of the best places we've eaten at out here" (meaning Dallas). Not sure what this says about DFW, but the gourmet restaurant they were taking us to was housed in a Conoco convenient store/gas station... and it was FABULOUS!!!

The brief story behind the Chef Point Cafe in Watuaga, TX (just outside Ft. Worth) is this: Chef Franson Nwaeze and his wife wanted to open a restaurant, but were unable to find financing due to their lack of experience. They were, however, able to obtain financing for a filling station... after adding a complete kitchen to a station they purchased, they opened for business in 2003. Their story has been featured in Paula Deen's magazine, as well as on various TV shows, etc., which is how Norm and Carol found out about it. The food is well worth the drive - no matter where in DFW you live!

Landry in 3-D... no glasses required

We had our 3-D sonogram today! For the first 30 minutes, Landry wasn't cooperating so well, but neither was the placenta. Either his arms or hands were obstructing his little face or the placenta was in the way. Finally... towards the end of the session, he moved just enough that the technician was able to get some great shots of his entire face - chubby cheeks and all! He has his daddy's nose and his mommy's lips and really big feet, which I think takes after his sister :) To be able to put a face to our little guy is remarkable. I think Blair and I made one adorably cute little boy if I do say so myself... ;)

Verrette Baby Story

Blair and I decided on the baby's name... LANDRY DALE VERRETTE

Dale is in memory of Blair's father, who passed away 4 years ago this July. Blair is the last "Verrette", so that is one of the reasons we are so excited to be having a little boy, he'll be able to carry on the Verrette namesake.

This is the first entry about the baby and my pregnancy, so it's a little lengthy. Below is a summary of the first 27 weeks of our long awaited pregnancy.

As most of our family & friends are aware, we had to wait 1 year and 9 months to be blessed with this pregnancy. We found out in early March that I was pregnant and Blair and I couldn't have been more thrilled! The pregnancy has been a breeze so far, although I almost hate to put that in writing since I still have 12 weeks to go... no morning sickness, no sore boobs, no extra tiredness, etc. Until I started feeling Landry move inside of me, I was relieved at every doctor's appointment when we were able to see him on the sonogram or hear his heart beating - I needed proof I was pregnant!

The second trimester has been full of heartburn and a few leg cramps here and there, but I really can't complain. We waited so long for this little guy that I would have endured pretty much anything and if heartburn is it, I'm just all the more lucky!!!

First hint I was pregnant! I ended up taking about 10 home pregnancy tests.

6 Weeks Preggo (just finished working out = crazy hair and no make-up = lovely picture)

Landry's first sonogram at 7.5 weeks - what an adorable little peanut!

13 Weeks

17 Weeks (another crazy hair pic - I hope I had just finished working out...)

We found out at our 19 week sonogram that we were having a little boy!!! My doctor's exact words were "its got a wiener!" Blair and I were extremely excited and we wanted Ireland to be the first to know, so we picked her up after the appt and took her for ice cream. We gave her a bag full of blue jelly belly's to help give her the news.
